Have a Bunch of Fun

We went to the playcenter "Have a Bunch of Fun" today, and oh boy, they had bunch of fun! Brady was super excited all day because he knew they were having a science class and were going to be able to make a volcano. The funny boy initially cried when I first mentioned the class because he thought the hot lava would burn him but after I explained it was only pretend he was all about it and couldn't wait. The class began with storytime and the book "If You Take a Mouse to School" was read to the kids. In the story, a mouse makes a volcano erupt in science class and that's exactly what we did too. We were able to pick our color play-do for the volcano and both boys picked blue, their favorite color. We then added vinegar inside the bottle and were able to choose a color for the lava to be added next. Other silly kids picked green but Brady knows that hot lava should be red so that's the color we added. He was very serious about the whole thing. Lastly, we added baking soda which caused the volcano to erupt and the lava to ooze out. This was definitely Brady and Cash's favorite part of the class, besides wearing the cool safety goggles. The nice teachers even let the little scientists do one more experiment with a balloon. My job tomorrow is to go to the store to gather some supplies so we can build another volcano at home. Can you tell they liked it?

Hut!

Sunday, March 13, 2011

Cash received one last birthday present from Aunt Betty today, a football uniform! He could not wait to try it on and go play some football! Daddy taught him "Down, set, hut!" What Cash learned from this is, "Mommy, Daddy gives me the ball when I say 'hut!'" Brady did not show much jealousy and said "When Cash wears his football uniform, I'll just wear my baseball uniform". I racked my brain as to what baseball clothes he was referring to but could not think of any. When he came down the stairs, poor Brady was wearing his baseball pajamas. Ha! Now every time we play outside he has to run and put on his pajamas and sees no problem with this. It's quite a sight!

***Cash's jersey number is appropriately "08" since he was born in 2008.

I Spy

While playing outside on the swing set, Cash spotted someone familiar through his telescope. Can't you just hear Daddy saying, "What, my meeting was canceled?!?"

Happy 3rd Birthday Cash!

Friday, March 11, 2011

Happy birthday sweet Casharoo! You're a big boy now! We started the day with waffles, Cash's favorite breakfast, and as you can see he still did not like us singing the birthday song. We played with some of Cash's new toys and then headed out on our mission for the day: to see a real firetruck. After going to three fire stations, I was starting to think that I needed to start a fire in my own house to get a response. Luckily we did not have to go to those extreme measures and we finally found a station with some firemen inside to give them the plate of cookies we baked. Thank goodness they offered to let Cash sit in the firetruck and he even let one of the nice firemen carry him around for a tour. He was so excited and grinned from ear to ear! Mission success!

After we got home, Brady presented Cash with his Fireman of the Year Award. We played outside some more and then went to Pei Wei, Cash's favorite restaurant, so he could eat rice with soy sauce and have some fortune cookies. That night, we attempted to sing Happy Birthday one last time and it was still a no go. Cash just pouted his sweet lips and then belted out his screams. We still love you baby even though you don't like our singing.

***Cash is fascinating with his tooshie these days. I can't tell you how many times a day I have to say, "Cash, get your hands out of your tooshie." The end result is that Cash is typically mooning you if you see him from the backside.

Yee-Haw!

Houston Livestock Show & Carnival

We had so much fun at the livestock show this year. We decided to go during the week so there were no crowds or lines. Our plan worked and we were able to take advantage of so many things that we have never done in years past. By far the favorite attraction for both boys was riding the ponies. They loved every minute of it! As you can see in the close-up pictures afterwards, my little cowboys were so proud of themselves! Yee-haw!

Sound the Alarm!!!

Saturday, March 5, 2011

Sound the alarm! We had a blazing good time at Cash's 3rd birthday party! All of the firemen and their families reported to the Bartels Firehouse and first had to suit up in the Locker Room. Here the firemen received their personalized hats, fire extinguishers, axes, walkie talkies, buckets, and fire safety material. After playing around and filling our bellies with fire hoses (penne pasta), 3-alarm ziti, ladder rungs (garlic bread), and flammable liquid (red punch), it was time for some games.

We had several emergencies where the little firemen were needed to save the day. First, we helped a puppy that was in danger on the balcony by catching him in our parachute. We then went around and around with the parachute and sang the "Wheels on the Firetruck." We also pretended the parachute was smoke so the little guys would learn to stay low and crawl under smoke. Daddy then demonstrated how to "Stop, Drop, and Roll" in the unthinkable case that their clothes were on fire, and of course, we all had to get on the floor and roll around too. Next, we played a fireman relay and had to fill our buckets up with packing popcorn and then poured them in a larger container to extinguish a pretend fire. After that we had one final emergency. The boys' playhouse outside was on fire! What better way to put the fire out then water balloons! I thought this was going to be Cash's favorite part of the party but instead he was not too thrilled, with any of it for that matter. This makes me so sad because all Cash has eagerly talked about for weeks was his fireman birthday party and now that it finally happened, he really didn't seem to enjoy it at all.

We have decided that Cash just does not like crowds. I did not even have the chance to give him his Fireman of the Year Award because I didn't want to draw any more unwanted attention to him. And if you thought he didn't like the games, just wait until you see what he did when we sang "Happy Birthday." He screamed and screamed! He just wanted to eat his fireman brownie in peace without all of the drama. (We had brownies not cake but Cash LOVES brownies, he could eat a whole pan if you let him.)

The only time Cash was really happy was when I asked him if he wanted to open presents and he immediately stood up, said "yeah," and marched for the gifts. I was shocked! After the party, I noticed I had been so distracted with Cash's moodiness that I forgot to pass out the Bartels Firehouse Matchbooks. I guess kids shouldn't play with matches anyway!

Soccer

Saturday, February 19, 2011

We kicked off Brady's spring soccer season with ice cream, yummy! Brady's first part of this season so far is that his new team's jersey just happens to be his favorite color, blue. Lucky him!
