My Little Lamb

Cash's teachers unfortunately do not welcome parents in the classroom so sadly I do not have many pictures of him at school. The day I took my camera and was determined to break in and get some photos, I was lucky enough to catch Cash in action. Ms. Brenda had all the kids in circle time and I was able to watch Cash taking his turn at the felt board. He had a very sweet grin when he made the right choice and returned to his seat, silently, of course. When he caught a glimpse of me, he can came running and gave me a big hug. He wasn't thrilled to take his picture with Ms. Paula but did it solely because I said Brady has a picture with his teacher so he needed one with his teacher too.

Cash has yet to talk at school and Ms. Brenda says she can't wait for Cash to open up to her. I told her not to hold her breath because he took until February last year to warm up to his teachers. He's a one woman kind of guy, what can I say? Back to my point, everyday as soon as Cash and I are walking down the hall after school he starts talking a mile a minute breathlessly about all the fun he had at Little Lambs. Today his comment was, "Mommy, you're not going to believe it, we did the COOLEST thing today, we went to gym and DANCED!" It's like he keeps all of his words bottled up all day and he can't wait to blurt them out as soon as he leaves the classroom with me. I get so much information from him during that short period that I can even tell you what the other kids ate for lunch.

His favorite activity everyday is usually the playground. This makes me soooo happy because last year he mainly just observed and watched everyone else play. Now he's loosening up and enjoying the fabulous play area himself too. Ms. Melissa says that now he's even participating in music class, smiling, and doing the hand gestures. She's very proud of his growth and so am I!

Go Coogs!

Friday, September 2, 2011

Brady and Cash both wore their Cougars jerseys to school since the next day was University of Houston's first football game of the season. I love how Cash always looks up to Brady to make sure that he's doing exactly what he's doing. By the way, Coogs won! I can hear Daddy yelling now, "Whose House?" and the boys in return screaming, "Coog's House!" over and over again!

Super-Brady

Friday, September 2, 2011

Brady's first kindergarten project of the year was to decorate a gingerbread man. They were each given the brown gingerbread man cutout and were told to decorate it however they wanted. We decided to make a "Super-Brady" and I went to buy the foam glittery sheets while he was at school. The directions explicitly said have fun with your child doing this project so I thought I could help just a little bit and send him in the right direction. Well, Brady didn't like my idea of just a mask and a symbol on his chest and some boots. He wanted to dress him in a superhero suit and have all of him covered. He wanted to add the gloves, the belt, and even the googly eyes because he said that the gingerbread man couldn't see. My only job was to trace the sizes of the clothing. Brady chose the colors, cut everything out, and glued everything down. If you zoom in, you can tell it was all Brady's handiwork. Super-Brady turned out pretty darn cute! I just hope Ms. Read knows that I honestly didn't do anything (besides tracing) and it really was all Brady's design. I swear!

Cash's First Day of Preschool

Monday, August 29, 2011

With all of the prep work surrounding Brady starting Kindergarten, we were finally able to focus on Cash's first day back to preschool. He will tell anyone, "Brady goes to kindergarten and I GO TO LITTLE LAMBS." He was super excited for weeks but when the big day arrived he was a little nervous. He was very quiet on the car ride and his face was beginning to frown. When we arrived at school, he didn't want to walk and I had to carry him. The tears and cries began at his classroom. He wouldn't let me go. I took him inside and sat him in a chair next to his teacher at the puzzle table. He just screamed and screamed. Ms. Brenda picked him up and sat him on her lap alongside our family friend, Andre, who was also crying. When I walked out, they were still sobbing. I stood by and after a couple minutes they had stopped. They're pretty cute together and have the same personality. We have a bet with Andre's parents to see which one talks first at school. Ha ha!

Obviously, I wasn't able to take any pictures in the morning so in the afternoon, I snapped one of Cash in front of his school. He did not look like the same kid. He was happy and smiling from ear to ear. He even wanted to walk out himself wearing his backpack which he never did last year. Cash said he had fun at Little Lambs and wants to go back. Yay!

Every day since has gotten a little easier with fewer and fewer tears each day. As I'm writing this (one month into the school year), today was the first morning that Cash did not cry in the morning for his drop-off. Even though the tears are gone, he still wants to be carried in and loved on for as long as he can. I must admit that I don't mind one bit! :)

Brady's First Day of Kindergarten

Monday, August 22, 2011

Well this it, Brady's first day of kindergarten!!!! Since we arrived at school super early so I could get a parking spot, I had some extra time to do a quick photo shoot in front of the school. Afterwards, we got back in the car to wait some more and when I turned around to look at Brady in the backseat, this was the sweet face that I saw. He was sucking his thumb and looking up at his movie with his giant blue eyes. That face about broke my heart. Even though he's going to kindergarten, he's still my baby and not all grown up just yet. When Brady heard the click of the camera, he immediately asked, "You're not going to show that to anyone, are you?" (This is your cue to never mention this picture in front of Brady.)

When we went inside the school, we met up with Noah, his buddy from down the street. They gave each other good luck high fives and were grinning from ear to ear with excitement.

Inside the classroom, Brady found his seat and I found my courage not to cry. I think I had already cried so much this summer that there were absolutely no more tears left. It was just like when I cried so much at our wedding rehearsal that I could not even recite my vows; but, at the actual ceremony, I was perfectly calm.

I think it helps to know that I am leaving Brady in good hands. I've heard from numerous people that Mrs. Read is one of the best teachers at Birkes and feel that her personality will mesh well with Brady's perfectionist nature. It's also reassuring to know that Mrs. Read has two little boys at home almost the same ages as Brady and Cash so I know she will be a loving and nurturing teacher. Because of these things and more, it was easier for me kiss Brady goodbye and walk away.

When I picked him up, he was ecstatic. Brady loved every minute of his new journey. He ran up to me so silly and excited with both arms waving in the air and gave me the biggest of hugs. He talked to me a mile a minute the whole way home about his first day. My favorite quotes were: "Mommy, I didn't make any friends because I wasn't allowed to TALK" and "Mommy, I missed you so much that I told my teacher twice that I wanted to see you!"

When I asked Brady what his favorite part of the day was he didn't say the expected recess, lunch or art; he instead adamantly replied, "Learning." Go, Brady!

That night, I even received a call from Mrs. Read saying that Brady had a fabulous first day. Her exact words were, "Brady is so precious. He's a doll and I don't know how I will ever be able to tell him no. Please give him an extra hug from me tonight!" How sweet is that?!?!

Brady's Meet the Teacher Night

Thursday, August 18, 2011

Brady could not wait to go to school tonight to meet his kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Read. How perfect is that name for a kindergarten teacher? And, that's just what Brady wants to do...he wants to learn to read books all by himself. He is so eager and ready to learn. I'm so proud of him.

While all of the parents listened to a presentation in the cafeteria, all of the tiny students were introduced to their new teachers and then whisked away to tour the school and see their new classroom. I must admit this is when I became a tad bit emotional and had to wipe away the tears. This was the moment I had been dreading all summer but looking forward to at the same time because Brady was so excited. I love my Brady Bear so much and will miss all of the special time we spent together during the day; but, on the other hand, I am so happy for him because he has literally been counting down the days until kindergarten.

Doesn't he look like such a big boy sitting at his desk?!?!? OMG, this is really happening!

Go 'Stros!

Saturday, August 20, 2011

When we told the boys we were going to the Astros game, Brady's first question was, "Can I wear my Astros uniform?" As you can see, he did! Cash also wanted to wear his Astros gear to his first MLB game. They both grabbed their gloves in hopes of catching a ball and then we headed out. I had a purse full of toys and snacks but never needed them. They sat intently and watched the entire game with gloves in hand. They loved it! To top things off, we beat the Giants! Go 'Stros!
